I support laws requiring cash to be an option for retail businesses, and for cash not to be phased out. It's important not only for the unbanked and under- banked, but for having a resilient civilization in case of possible war, tyranny, and natural disasters.

An EMP attack can take out the power grid and destroy electronics over a large area. Repairs could take weeks, months, or even years. Cash would keep civilization going. A massive solar flair or supervolcano could have similar effects. For these reasons, it would be very foolish to phase out cash. The privacy advantages of cash alone are good enough for me to want cash to remain as an option. I don't want the government or others to have the ability to trace all of my economic transactions. What's within the law today may become outlawed tomorrow, God forbid tyranny rears its head. Tyranny has recurred throughout human history, and will likely do so in the future. Cash transactions will help reign in tyranny.
