I think drones are cool and we should use them because they are cooler than fire fighters who just run around while drones fly.

Watching the recent fires in Australia. I do think drones could be very useful to combat fires but only to some degree. It would be awesome to be able to ‘herd’ or direct wildlife out of danger zones or pluck them up,depending on weight..

I just saw this article, and wanted to comment. In 1974 I defended my thesis in order to receive a Bachelor of Forestry, Fire Management degree from Univ of Montana, Missoula. That thesis presented a plan to use remotely piloted vehicles (drones) in forest fire detection and management. I designed a trailer containing living quarters and pilot control station for operating and managing the rpv, which would allow the entire system to be located at the scene of the fire ops. I had recommended using a combo of IR and microwave imaging cameras to provide heat imagery. It is nice to see an aspect of my thesis being put into work many years later!
